Kings 2: 1-12a
Now when God was about to take Elijah up to heaven by a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal. And Elijah said to Elisha, “Wait here, please; for God has sent me as far as Bethel.” But Elisha said, “As God lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you.” So they went down to Bethel. And the prophets who were in Bethel came out to Elisha, and said, “Do you know that today God will take away your teacher from over you?” And Elisha said, “Yes, I know it; hold your peace.”
Elijah said to him, “Elisha, tarry here, I pray you; for God has sent me to Jericho.” But Elisha said, “As God lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you. So they came to Jericho. The prophets who were at Jericho drew near to Elisha, and said to him, “Do you know that today God will take away your teacher from over you?” And Elisha answered, “Yes, I know it; hold your peace.”
Then Elijah said to Elisha, “Tarry here, I pray you; for God has sent me to the Jordan.” But Elisha said, “As God lives, and as you yourself live, I will not leave you. So the two of them went on. Fifty of the prophets also went, and stood at some distance from them, as they both were standing by the Jordan. Then Elijah took his mantle, and rolled it up, and struck the water, and the water was parted to the one side and to the other, till the two of them could go over on dry ground.
When they had crossed, Elijah said to Elisha, “Ask what I shall do for you, before I am taken from you.” And Elisha said, “Please, let me inherit a double share of your spirit.” And Elijah said, “You have asked a hard thing; yet, if you see me as I am being taken from you, it shall be so for you; but if you do not see me, it shall not be so.” And as they still went on and talked, behold a chariot of fire and horses of fire separated the two of them. And Elijah went up by a whirlwind into heaven. And Elisha saw it and cried out, “My teacher, my teacher! the chariots of Israel and its riders!”

Mark 9: 2-9
And after six days Jesus took with him Peter and James and John, and led them up a high mountain apart by themselves; and Jesus was transfigured before them, and his garments became glistening, intensely bright, as no one on earth could bleach them. And there appeared to them Elijah with Moses; and they were talking to Jesus. And Peter said to Jesus, “Rabbi, it is well that we are here; let us make three booths, one for you and one for Moses and one for Elijah.” For Peter did not know what to say, for they were exceedingly afraid. And a cloud overshadowed them, and a voice came out of the cloud, “This is my beloved Child; to this one you shall listen.” And suddenly looking around they no longer saw anyone with them but Jesus only.
And as they were coming down the mountain, Jesus charged them to tell no one what they had seen, until the Human One should have risen from the dead.
